Word for something familiar and in reality not familiar.

Does Specious suit the expression I want? He is something that it is true on the surface but really isn’t, i.e. anything like X-rays. To be honest. And like anyone who saw him, he is actually true about everything that is no matter What; it is ‘Alone’s Reality In My Life’. Is it familiar if we look closely?

Example sentence:

Mushrooms resemble plants, they are _____ to plants, they look like plants and consumed as vegetables. If you look deeper then you realize that they are completely different living organisms (humans and animals) from each other.

The word would represent a thing to be familiar, recognizable, etc. Using the English words’s’ and’s’. (Not necessarily physically familiar) is not. (Not necessarily related to physical experience). (Not necessarily relative or appropriate to the situation.) Yet, it would also convey the thing as “alien”, “unrelatable”, “different”.
