What are dictionary definitions? What does it mean? In this case, the word “intellectual” often has the connotation of an elite (positive) or elitism (negative).

In the positive sense, people talk of intellectuals as those who develop ideas to restructure the economy or advance science or otherwise benefit society. How can one be very smart and apply it to a social job? How a genius who used his intelligence to run a business won’t normally be called an intellectual (assuming he did not do other things to earn the title). “A genius who uses his intelligence to plot ways to smuggle cocaine into the country would surely not be called an intellectual”.

In the negative sense, people usually sneer at “intellectuals” as people who think their intelligence makes them better than everybody else to some extent. If I am to live as a person, like a person with lots of intelligence but little wisdom, and so propose utopian solutions that don’t work in the real world, why? As in, “Yeah, that sounds great in theory but it doesn’t work in practice. “TWo

can infinity do something?”

In your essay about an unintelligent intellectual perhaps one word you might use is pedantic perfunctory, though it doesn’t convey the nuances expressed in the other

Intelligence is a very contentious word/concept. With regard to ethnicity, there are various articles in literature arguing for the linguistic intelligence over the concrete math of the way it has been developed. Some are racially or culturally biased, others favour linguistic intelligence and so on.

What is the meaning of Intelligence in Wikipedia? Why doesn’t someone teach you the importance and why should you follow one more than the other? I have an adult friend who is mathematical genius. Besides mathematics, he struggles with many other aspects of human-human interaction. And he has trouble following the plot of children’s films. Similarly I have another friend who displays a high degree of ’emotional Intelligence’but who has to pull out the calculator to do basic arithmetic in supermarkets.

What is the difference between one concept and another?

Obligatory dictionary quote:

capacity of learning,

  1. reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings, etc.

  2. He writes with intelligence and wit.

  3. Faculty of understanding (Foundation of Psychology): (a) Conscientious faculty or a unit of consciousness (a)

  4. Knowledge of an event, circumstance, etc. n, received or imparted; news; information.

  5. the collection and distribution of information, particularly secret information.

noun Superior

  1. intellect.

  2. A person who places high value on or pursues things of interest to the intellect or the more complex forms and fields of knowledge, as aesthetic or philosophical matters, especially on an abstract and general level.

  3. A rational person is someone who relies on intellect rather than emotions or feelings.

  4. The person involved in mental labor, as a writer or teacher.

What is an intellectual? When should one define that something is ‘high intellect’ and why? IQ is something you have, you really are possessed of; your ability to think logically and critically. Being intellectual is a style choice, a word that describes your personality and set of values. What makes a person an intelligent learner, but not in the same way that being naturally fast doesn’t make you a runner, or that being naturally expressive doesn’t make you a performer?

As such, I believe in intelligent people and non-intelligents. Is there anything as individual intellectual with an intellectual edge? Certainly not common, and an unintelligent person probably wouldn’t make a very good intellectual– in the same way that being slow make you a sub-par runner– but they can exist.

Is it a contradiction? In the same way someone can be interested in and enjoy playing a sport without being good at it. Therefore, there would be a degree of expectation that one, a football player, would be fit, but not necessarily so. Why didn’t some people really understand the arguments they’d cited ni the counter-arguments they presented?
