“Bereaved” vs. “bereft”

I re-read the above sentence after it’s changed from “bereaved” to “” bereaved”. I know that the

children who lost their father were never able to re-embrace their new father and their relatives are in constant pain to watch. When it comes to their father he may as well die.

Beneath: bereaved (adjective): having lost a relative or close friend who

has recently died Bereft (adjective): bereft of something completely lacking something; having lost

something completely faulty.

Or something similar to using Bereft? It’s good to know that it’s still used. The focus of this sentence is the lost of his father’s love and affection but not his dad, and

the tragic loss for his partner.
