I couldn’t decide which grammatically correct one is.

Is it true that you are smarter than you appear to be? Is it

true you are smarter than you are? “I

want to be in Africa for 4 or 5 years. “. “

Both possible. Then see some examples from Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary: APPEAR (of course): to have an outward aspect. She

appears happy enough.
