Word for opposite of a target?
What event data does an event database use? What is the second column, I call “target”, when I can’t remember a word to describe the person causing the event. So it could be word meaning the opposite of target (which I cannot think of), or it could be something related like inventor? I don’t like “instigator” because it comes from a verb that is made a noun with the -or suffix. But what will I do for the sake of instigator? It’s not that “instigator” and “target” are different parts of speech, but the word “style” is different. What is the word for the opposite of target?
What can I do to make a lesson that fits my own needs?

Alternately catalyst, but I think that is less fitting because it usually connotes the beginning of a process, especitally chemically.

I’d go with “event source”, “event destination” / “event target”, or “event cause”, or “event effect”. If we’re talking about a database, it may even literally be a data trigger.
Was a matter of personal taste?
Your system describes the events which are caused by people and also which affect people. How do you target someone in an unknown cause? This effect is effected by the person who caused the event. How can someone affect us through their actions?
I missed your “no -or” requirement until after I wrote my answer? I decided to submit my thesis and am still doing
it. A short story is still good to write.
