Why is our past simple or past perfect? – I abused mother —— her doing something that she had forbidden me to do. And yet – she evicted me!

My grandmother had got out of bed and was coming

to study. I think it is a very long paragraph. Two seconds later she opened the door. I will never forget the terrible feeling of shame that she… (catch) me doing something that she had forbidden me to do? I

know there’s another tense to complete the gap for ” – simple past or past perfect? What is this answer to why you are here?

What do I do if I really want to become successful?

I think that the key here is the time relationship between the experience of shame and the event of being caught. If good shame occurs while being caught, then simple past is the best choice. If shame occurs while later reflecting on being caught then past perfect would be better.

When Grandmother forbids something Grandmother is

  1. caught on camera
  2. catching the speaker in act and the speaker feels shame. The speaker
  3. relates the experience the sentence

should be: “When she
walked in, I felt shame wash over me because she caught me doing something she had forbidden me to do. “If

the order of events is Grandmother

  1. forbids something Grandmother
  2. caught the speaker in the act The
  3. speaker thinks about it and feels shame The
  4. speaker relates the experience the

sentence should be: ‘For
the next several weeks every time I thought about her walking in, I felt ashamed because she had caught me doing something she had forbidden me to do. The next time I thought about her walking in, she kept me awake even when she knows of the actions. I don’t think of the incident’ ”

“I will never forget the awful feeling of shame that she…………….(catch) me doing something which she not allowed me to do. ”

‘Catch’ should be in the simple past because it happened after ‘forbidden’ which is in the past perfect. Is the Past perfect in a case where there is an action X before an action Y and y is in the simple past?
