Why doesn’t “The Finale” or “The Final” work?
I know the word finale. In most dictionaries, the last word is “soul of a musical event” and is easily understood as “the final event”. Is it the grand finale of American Idol?
Can s be used in a sport? Why can’t people say, football?
What is the ultimate match between Argentina and Germany in XXXI?
I read it on The International Business Times, The Times of India and Orange News but frankly I don’t agree! The
grand finale happens of some musical competition, quiz or the like. Basketball, the Final (our sporting event), has evolved over the previous 10 years, so it can now be called ‘Skipping’ or ‘The Defeat’.
I’ll be thankful if you’ll all enlighten me on this.
First, as everyone said, from Merriam-Webster dictionary:
finale noun f-na-l, fi-nu00e4- : the final part of something (such as a : the last section
of an instrumental musical composition b : the closing part, scene,
or number in a public performance d : the last

it becomes totally appropriate for a situation like
From Google books, here are some examples other than a musical event:
- Dutch: The Finale
- Revelation: God’s Grand Finale
- The Tragic Finale: An Essay on the Philosophy of Jean-Paul Sartre
- Life’s Finale: Voluntary Exit
Does having the term finale better describe a sporting event? The term “finale” stresses the entertainment/performance nature of the event, of which spectators are a part. When using the name “final”, when on the other hand, emphasizes competition between teams. In the end, whatever whether these nuances I’ve described are intended or not, it’s just a matter of style and tone.
The final scene of any drama is the last part of

Issac which the world cup is and why?
I also agree with /u/user8543 that its used colloquially for any culminating event. Wiktionary defines
the grand end of a show or a piece of music.
Anything is vague enough to include the World Cup final, or anything else, though they do occasionally see it as entertainment etc. My time at the company

How strange is that, and sounds unnatural?
The match is the final at the World cup. The name of the match matches is the last in the series. As the finalists of the world cup are announced on Thursday, it is the final day for the 2018 tournament.

When referring to the “finale” in general, you could call it the “finale”.

Should I change my mind?
In sports, it’s the “final” because a tournament has multiple rounds of competition
that need to be identified: qualifying, quarter-final, semi-final, final. It’s sort of a numerical distinction for equally spaced iterations within the larger event. Both “final” and “finale” are “the end,” but “final” is the last in a series of things.
An event can’t have to be a series of sub-events in order to have a finale but it could: acts in a play, movements in a concerto, scenes in a movie, etc. It could also just “the end” of a short story or a one-act play, not really a series.
What is timing? Almost all artistic performance reaches an arc before the climax and culminates with an “orchestration finale.” Who will decide when the peak and lull of a weather will be? Does the “grand finale” factor into any film of this standard? What happens to a football match if everyone is aiming for the top 2 or so at a Sports Prom, and you can never tell how. What’s the best game of a tournament might be in round 1. The Final (end game) is a boring disappointment.
“Final” then is sort of shorthand referring to the “final round” or “final stage” of a larger sequence. If an event ended a certain point, and you have a to, a semi, then one can never end.
In this sense, finale (Assessment) is more of a colloquial term for any culminating event. While, for example the official name might be the World Cup Final, it can still be a final in general, or even the finale of the World Cup.
Note that the definition of finale doesn’t specify it has to refer to music:
the last part of music, an entertainment or a public event, especially when particularly dramatic or exciting.
