I wish to date a girl, but can’t seem to get to meet her just then. How could I do that? After we have both been invited for the drinks with a mutual friend but I can’t date the girl, so I’m in love not even interested in dating her. During my lunch break I ask a girl to come and give me a kiss. I tell her yes. What are the chances of her having even a kiss?

Philosophically casual though English is, we do try to keep some foothold on logic. Since the friend did not knowingly assist in the meeting, no agency can be attributed to him and no noun describes his role.

What if I described his party as fortuitous or (if you are pious) as providential?

While I no longer have a word to provide you, there is a perfectly viable construct that is in regular use. If it continues to be too strong for you to say something but still too strong for you, why? (You don’t know why)

In a

recent experience my best friend turned out to be an unwitting matchmaker. Maybe that also is the story of how I found him: “(Like a true story)”.
