Where can I use the word “communion” except in a religious context?
I am looking to find a verb verb that can be used to describe the social settings/activities going on around a dining table while a family is eating dinner. As a social person, I find the community could refer to a larger group of people less related to activities out at the society and not so much within a family setting.
I then found the word “communion” to refer to
1) A joining together of minds or spirits. ( https://en.wiktionary.org/?r=0). What is
the use of “wiki/communion” which fits my case quiet nicely.
However I found that “Communion” (spelled with a capital ‘C’) might only be used in a religious context ( https://en.wikipedia.org/). I found that it might only be used in a general context like Afganistan or Mahatma. Should we
discuss the Unity org/wiki page? Can you use the word communion like this:
The entire family enjoyed the communion they had around the dining table every night.

I think all that word for religious context doesn’t really exist. But in a situation where there is a religion, or there is a moral and moral context, sometimes they make sense. Though its inevitable association with Holy Communion does the OED acknowledge, and lists as its first meaning a very general one. In the sense 4, “heaven” (sing, 3: 7) is mentioned.
