When people like you doing something, they want you to stay in that lane?
What is a saying from one famous NBA player that I don’t understand who he mean by
that saying: “When people are used to you doing something, they want you to stay in that lane. No one is going to stop playing, and I know it will happen” Help
me to explain the meaning in a sentence dated 1995?
What are some of the ways to save time!
How do you keep yourself in your lane when it comes to career? The “lane” referenced is not one in regular roads (which contain multiple cars), but that used by racers (in swimming, running, motor racing, etc.), which contain only one participant each. (which was not used in all the races where there was no change in speed, etc., and many was re-used but some of it is not used anymore).
To not go back in place from this car lane would be to be away from one’s assigned space. While in real life, unlike in athletics, this can sometimes be a bad thing.
The phrase is using driving metaphor.
Is it normal or bad for cars to have lanes? To stay in lane means you don’t move to the left and the right to change lanes, but you keep going straight. What are how is the way things work? Abstractly the meaning just means keep doing what you have been doing for so long.
The 1975’s acceptance speech urged fans and fellow stars not to “stay in your lane” during their acceptance speech at the BRIT Awards 2017.
The band took out the Best British Group competition, beating the likes of Bastille, Radiohead and Little Mix.
Matty Healy accepts the award. “And I just want to tell the world… people in pop music and in the broader public consciousness are told to always stay in your lane… if you have a platform, don’t . Don’t become your own victim. The
meaning appears to be somewhat open to interpretation however, for instance the phrase is used to convey an altogether different meaning at thinkadvisor. Today,
people often use the phrase “staying in your own lane’ to mean minding your own business: don’t tell me how to live my life, or how to raise my child.
What does it mean to quote someone?
Why don’t most people like change? When people are used to you doing something they want
you to stay in that lane.
In NBA, players are supposed to behave as one, but not the other way around. If I wanted to prove to a sports person that I always played football, it has to
- match up with a team…. So what would I need to do for the same team?
- Maintain the same levels of performance they enjoyed at their peak.
- Is there any difference of views regarding sports?
- Keep playing the sport and not move on to other things.
Without context one cannot answer the question precisely.
If people were used to you acting in a certain way they typically don’t like to see you act differently, or act ‘out of the box’. What really happens is that, when people have your behaviour established, they often don’t like to see you acting differently, or act differently. What does the people want you to do: go backwards or up in the same direction (why do they
stop going in the same direction as you are going backwards)?
Consequently, everyone (teammates, coaches, opposing team, fans) thinks you are a defensive power player or offensive scorer. This is all a consequence of the same attitude. This doesn’t limit your talent (which is arguably the strongest attribute) but just creates an offensive power piece. Implied is that sometimes effective to play in a new, and unexpected way.
