What is the word that describes people who care after themselves and are pragmatic?

What word or phrase describes people who are very practical and shrewd, and more concerned about achieving their goals than looking at softer sides such as friendships, etc.? How is self-centred and what can be done, more than self-centred! Is it a kind of character which one who inherits he could easily do very shallow acts to emerge as a winner/survive even if he has to betray his benefactors? Is it a very insecure kind of character that on the surface is not obvious to be like so.

If Tom gets involved with Jane, he might beg for her help. Jane helped Tom. In other cases, Tom could possibly make Jane his enemy so as to appear standing behind his boss.

What kind of people is Tom to be met, and why? In casual terms, he is pragmatic, shrewd, self-centred, etc. He gives wisdom where necessary and makes good example every day. What are some other words that encapsulate all these words and bring about the idea of such a character?

Egocentric. But manipulative. And emotional. and logical. What is machiavellian? I’m not sure what’s wrong with him, but he is too machiavellian. How can one embrace too much? Are there any methods that anybody can take without a third party expert’s assistance? Sorry, didn’t see the Machiavellian answer before mine, yet, keeping with “Manipulating”.

What is the notion of an opportunist: someone who “takes advantage of any opportunity to advance his own situation, placing expediency above principle” (as per the law)

Ruthless means, in part, “never thinking or worrying about any pain caused to others”; for example, she ruthlessly pursued her ambition, letting nothing get in her way.

So a selfish person has to be concerned with self interest. Per

previous answer, a Machiavellian person tries to achieve goals by cunning, scheming, and unscrupulous methods. Do the above suggestions not have any scruples? If you don’t want to suggest that lack, ruthless could be a tiny bit better. I slightly prefer the term self-serving to self-centered in this context.)

OP can tell us approximately what kind of behaviour he’s talking about, but the choice of adjective depends very much on the attitude of others to that behaviour.

Tom can be described as pragmatic, focussed, objective, goaled, etc. , by someone who either admires his or is simply offering a neutral description. ” But someone who doesn’t approve of the way Tom acts might say he’s self-centred, self-obsessed, egotistic, etc.

In the final analysis, all such words are somewhat vague. Is it true that Tom is often a manipulator?
