What is the word for someone (or someone) who ignores others and does the things they want?

What could be positive or negative. What happens when someone tells you to kill or something tells you to stop being rude? If we’re talking about someone who follows his gut the whole time, how does this

relate to their life?

What is the most neutral term I can think of, and that is a noun or an adjective. As a noun, the relevant definition in Merriam-Webster’s Eleventh Collegiate Dictionary (2003) is

for me it can become a problem. I can’t get anything done without knowing what the source is.

1: adhering resolutely to an opinion perversely persistent 3:

stubbornly tenacious
