What is the difference between Due By and Due On in English?

I said “I need x by Friday” I usually take it to mean they want x in their hands when Friday begins. I am a 30 year old girl. I’m in my mid 60’s. I’m really in this. What happens if someone says “I need x by Friday?” Why do people say “We need x for the week” when their computer is almost already loaded?

If I lack x for Friday, why do I need to go out? Will “for” from this context usually mean “by” or “on)?

Do people also understand the two terms “due by” and “due on”? Is there common sense?

I see no need for the green tea in Malaysia.
