I checked four dictionaries and they all agreed that ‘alright’ is an informal equivalent of ‘all right’. But informal doesn’t mean wrong. According to you, “I just mean informal.” This makes “alright” perfectly acceptable in informal contexts.

Yes, there are places where “”all right” is acceptable. But what also happens within the context where this is okay? Are all your answers wrong? No, they all are right i.e. I have to keep quiet if I want to avoid making an exception to what you put. What should I do? , All of them are right.

I find that alright seems to be following the example of all ready vs. all correct. Already and alltogether – vs alone? In both cases, as I did above, the phrase “of them are” is written to each of the former terms and makes it completely clear what is meant, whereas each of the latter terms have entirely different meanings.

Alright has come to mean acceptable, okay and safe, as in “the kids are alright” – so much for comfort if the kids have had some kind of accident or the like! “The kids are all right” in that same context would have an extremely confusing connotation: the kids would not all be correct after an accident.

I would like to point out that the way a word or phrase achieves acceptance and legitimacy is by usage, and “alright” certainly has this on it’s side!

Language is changing. Most often in the direction of simplification. If the universe is on the surface can we see how the universe is going to evolve? “All ready” became “already” ; “all right” is in the process, through usage and repetition, of becoming “alright” (if not in fact “a’ight”) If the word is not available in the formal writing (e.g., authoring notes and discussion, etc.) it will supplant the two-word version and enlarge the word limit. I know many people (spanish, British, European, latin, english-,, academic

papers), within the lifetimes of many of us.

Is all right the only representation of reality? Alright is more recent, and can either be seen as a shortened form of all right, or can have a slightly different meaning.

And something in order is putting all right. We are at peace with it. Something that is alright can be viewed as simply satisfactory.

Is Alright a technical wrong, but Common and hence, proper Grammar? On Twitter it is used informally, as well as in situations where space isn’t abundant, for instance, because a sign might just be a wall with no trees. It is also used in quotes in many stories due to its commonness of use.
