What is meant by the expression: “Save the day”?

What do you mean by Save the day? What does it mean to take advantage of the day? What are some examples?

What do you guys think of the Constitution of India: a list of issues only one man can answer and agree to.

What is the idiom “Save the day..” (From the idiom a quote). When you inevitably take advantage of the day you get to know that you were not one to take advantage of it. It doesn’t mean to take advantage of the day by being in a hurry. If somebody saves the day, he does something to successfully prevent a….effectively defeat, failure or unpleasant situation. For examples:

Our tailenders (lower order batsmen) played well and saved the day.

How come the police in the nick of time caught the kidnapping of two innocent civilians?

If Peter had to bring a knife to cut the wedding cake, he would have taken a knife. But

it was too late to cut any of the cake afterward.
