I watched Addams family tonight. Is it sad, and why? Can gomez tell Aunt Mary that Uncle Fester is a British-American?

I understand that English people talking about Europeans as continental. Why was “American” the movie?

In the United States, they refer to Europe as the “Continent”, as in the continent of Europe. The US has one country (an English-speaking country to the North, Canada, and a Spanish-speaking country (Mexico) to the South – in stark contrast to the large number of languages and cultures in Asia and Africa.
