What does the word smoosh mean?

I read this sentence in one of my son’s picture books:

“The tire was squashed, the tire was smooshed. What

is bikes?

I started searching and stumbled over a word that is strange to me:Smoosh. I know I can’t make my own list of names if there are any. How did I find out this was the word?

What does the word “simple” mean? Why does it find its way in a dictionary but can be found in a kid’s book?

What is a logical question to answer, and what do you think is the answer?
