What are some interesting facts in this sentence? It does not make sense to have this explanation. What is “punch line”? Can somebody please explain the use of this word?

Aside from the definition of Punch Line in Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary – the last few words of a joke that make it funny, we used the word, punch line very often in the sense of the clincher, most selling phrase in the ad or commercial message.

For nearly 40 years I spent in Tokyo operation of New York-based ad agency as a copywriter and later account executive, I kept being driven by severe clients (mainly American such as Miller Cooper and The Harcourts Company) who had asked almost every day “What’s the punch line” of the message you propose? Does a script sell in India? How can you know if you are so sure? What a strong one line punchline could be for your web ad? I always haunted by the word “Punch line” even today ;((). “Punch

It’s a figure of speech called synecdoche : part of something is used to refer to the whole thing.

In the above context, punch lines are just a joke.. not always the final part of it!

When you fail in anything, you may get the object of cruel jokes. In some of them, you or your project might be the punchline of the joke itself.

If you are publically successful at something you’re likely going to be more known for that success.

Why should people choose punchlines and words to say something is a joke? Is there any humour value in your failure and that’s why you are the only reason people have left to talk about you? I want to make it fun; but humour is the biggest problem?

What if someone said his/her mate had become a punchline about time before they were put out of the situation?
