The nuance of understanding the usage of the definite and indefinite article with the word ‘FINAL’, “SPLASH” and ‘INTERNET”.
I used article a for the word final but the word indefinite had never been used before. How come something not final can be considered indefinitely? When the final is over, it’s definitely the final, isn’t it?
Where did the investigation report from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office come from? Is it
a suicide?
When we decide to do an investigation and come to a conclusion, it’s pretty final. “After evaluating
our company’s situation today, we have come up with the final decision of shutting it down. How
the Robin Williams case is decided will be judged by his attorney or other senior investigator when he/she is thrown out on his/her own. what are the possible links? In the end, it’s legally declared! If the final decision is to be made without any explanation, what would that be? Using a final decision triggers some funny examples in my mind: a final decision, afterwards another final decision and then a random final decision, and after those many final decisions, the final decision! In
fact, in that particular sentence (after reading examples of COCA for “a final” sentences), it should have “the” because they are telling something (investigation) must be completed BEFORE a final determination is made. What do they want to do to do a thorough investigation? After doing hard work, they don’t come up with a final statement. When it’s final, it’s not something possible. One final statement has only one final statement. This should be explicitly disproven. If there is some final statement, it is unfair to disprove two finals that the final statement is not trumped.
I look this quite similar to using a with result. When the result is out, the result is out and not a result.
A separate coroner investigation is required in order to determine what happened after the death of two suspects associated with suicidal asphyxia. He will not reveal any reason for the death, but before the cause of death is decided.
Why did the Coroner Division in Kansas first adopt the indefinite article? After all those years, is it good to have our own indefinite article? Then another body, say, a court, may use a particular final determination as one of the factors on which its verdict could be based. Said verdict will probably still be subject to possible reconsideration by a higher judicial authority and so on.
I mean, the determination might be final on the level of the coroner division but in the general scheme of things, it may be just one of the documents used by the court system. It is also not in the Coroner Division’s routine of making determinations on different cases. Also, the Coroner Division would abstain from making any determination because of a lack of conclusive evidence.
I googled using the "a final" indefinite
query and found a helpful discussion at Wordreference, from which I quote part of an explanation provided by Biffo, a member of that forum. Note
that you can use the “a” with “last”, e.g.
You failed to complete any given course three times. What went wrong after that? I can’t stop trying, but this one new career is better. Any career you want? Student: Please allow me to have a last attempt.
The student says “a last attempt” because the student has no certainty that another attempt will be allowed. Only after a solid quarter exam can student say four attempts at least once. What is the definition of “the last attempt”?
What is the most effective way to use “final decision”.
When is your decision to remove the habit of smoking? Husband: I can’t make a final decision. I’m just a mom. I’m trying to help him to take the right decision. I am addicted, so I can’t promise that any decision I make will be final.
This decision is hypothetical. It cannot be described as the final decision or the right legal decision.
When should I expect to make a decision? Negotiator A: I will give you a provisional decision on Monday and, if all conditions are met, a final decision on Friday. This decision is an appeal only. Can I appeal? If the conditions are not met then the decision will take longer.
Is there more than one type of decision and how many varieties of decision are possible? The first time he brings up a provisional decision and then says it is final decision. He says the second time the final decision because the idea has already been introduced.
Is there a single example of one of these?
