Synonym / Alternate expression for “for fear that”?

How can someone help me on here? I use it every day for a week now and it’s been nagging me in my head all afternoon for two days now. I swear I’ve heard a more literary alternative for this one before.

I’m looking for a synonym or different expression for (for fear) but no others in this. I’m thinking of a synonym , but no other words, and no doubt my guess is wrong.

What kind of thing comes to mind if God forbid? Though it has a completely different meaning, “by dint of” keeps presenting itself I think because the one that’s eluding me is also a prepositional phrase, maybe two words.
