One hiatus in the current understanding of science has occurred.

Is the usage of the word hiatus correct in the title of an article?

I read this in a formal document and I am somewhat surprised by hiatus being used in this context. Is there only one gap in the current comprehension that could be addressed (e.g: one gap in the current understanding…’)?

I have always thought of hiatus being used for military purposes. Is this one correct usage?

What should I say, if I can’t get more interesting?
