My interest in cultural history many years ago…?

What is wrong with saying what I will, or can, say?

My interest in Japan cultivated many years ago after taking part in…. I

initially used the verb stemmed as I want to indicate that it began after taking part in ‘…’, but I was told it did not make sense

What is the difference between “cultivated,” and the “year” used to carry and add to a cultivating? How about “my interest, sparked or blossomed…” Or “My interest, captured…”? Or the like.

What is your latest update about Japan?

If you use only the word “cultivate”, that would be active version. How would you express that you have cultivated their interest in politics?

You wish that your interest was cultivated and thereby grew bigger, not that your interest cultivated something. Please not!

Why the use of “was cultivated” would ‘feel better’; however, you can also add punctuation to the original and be just as

in…
