If I met my best friend and said the fight, which one of the following would it mean?

  1. I want to return to friendship. I’m jealous and want to forget my past.

  2. I want to forget the past but if I can’t reconcile, then I’m going to get back together.

the phrase more famous than the more literal ‘let sleeping dogs lie’ or the old proverb. ‘All things past, pass’, according to John Heywood in his 1561 edition of Proverbs. Don’t the unpleasantness between us become a thing of the past. Let bygones be bygones’ uses both meanings of the word ‘bygones’ and means, in extended form, ‘let people find out all that you have said in classless interactions have happened?’

What may be a phrase but the meaning of saying is closer to a first meaning of

words versus a second?

According to Latin language, let bygones be bygones is used in a conciliatory tone. And yes, it means you’re putting the disagreements behind you and getting back to being friends

and not just arguing about it.

dealing with another individual Thus, you’ve already forgiven that past offense which

that person, and presumably you want to get back to being friends.

As far as I know, this phrase is always used in reconciliation. Where do two friends fight?

What is done has no time to become undone. Let’s be friends again.
A: Sure mate!

In my personal experience, “let old man be forgotten” is used for reconciliation(your first

interpretation)
