The expression “We look forward to…ing” is extremely common yet hasn’t always been used. What would you use it for? What are you familiar with using forward instead of forward? (or forwarding to):

verb gerund or present participle

It is probably the product of a typo, where the author’s mind got a little ahead of itself, and was thinking about the -ing ending of the intended verb, but inserted -ing to soon, because forward- is also a verb. Degrading quality scores may be caused by improper computer editing.

  1. Forward is a noun, adjective, adverb and a verb,. Forward is a noun. Forward is a verb.

  2. Since “look forward” is a phrasal verb the correct present continuous form is “looking forward”, not “looking forwarding” Is the sentence you mentioned grammatically incorrect?

  3. I too look forward has been used since 1836 as a word like “I’m looking forward”. I look forward is more formal than “I’m looking forward” in formal letters.
