Is it true. “All without” vs. “All without”. “All except” vs. “All uhh” “All but” and “Total Only”?
I have a PC application which receives different types of messages. How do I get all three types of messages? How are they handled? They should be filtered. If they are, they don’t have a real message. One filter is named
All without online messages
which is not an appropriate choice IMHO, but I don’t exactly know why. Is there a formula? If they said “All without online meltungen” in German, in an
advanced German dictionary might
be “All just online
messagesAll except online messages
After checking dict.leo”.
All but means something like almost or nearly, so I would even exclude that version and stick with except.
Is it correct that

Why would I have never said all except and in any way..? Since you are filtering something out, you’re leaving it out – “all except” works the best here.
