If two guys fight the third outsider takes away the prize shield. and is, then soooo happy, is there a phrase of similar interpretation to this phrase?

What is the English equivalent of the

Marathi phrase Dhoghanchya bhandnya madhe (Fight between both) tisryacha fayda (will yield third’s (outsider’s) profit?

If there is a fight between two friends who want the prize shield. If he or she tries to fight against you, he/she turns to attack the third outsider with an open shield. Do you think the reason not to fight each other is that they will fight that way for a reason? I suppose there is a fairy tale which I don’t remember probably about a crow.

What do dogs say between the

legs while fighting for bones?

Oxford reference has a reference to Chaucer for this.

Wiktionary also has an entry on Facebook.

It doesn’t seem to be a very common English expression, although in my mother tongue it is very well known. What’s the best BBC international examples?
