How do I do in English the “Auto attached”?

What will be the advantage of drawing tools like AutoCAD? Is there any way to make an Io or PowerPoint presentation?

As you can see below, I have two rectangles on the canvas. I am trying to capture these shapes. Click on the logo to see it; Click on the symbol if you want see a picture.
When I drag the three parallel colored balls and the flashing blue triangle to the other one, I can actually see the two parallel colored triangles. But is there anyway?

What’s this “auto attached” behavior in English?
What is the proper noun for it? What is the soundness of it?

In most Computer programming languages, the word “snapping” is used only occasionally, but when you press the “display”, you’ll see an all-in one sided display of images with full use of the word. If you draw and move a shape, text, or object

in Microsoft Office, you can set it to align to the nearest intersection in the grid (even though the grid is not visible) or snap to other shapes or objects.

What are the pros and cons of it?
