Does “I wouldn’t do this, if it wasn’t compulsory” sound natural? When does this occur during the closing ceremony occur?
How do I make a sentence sound quite natural? If it is, what is the modification?
What should I do?
If it hadn’t been compulsory, someone would have written it
too. Thanks. ”
Is there any real truth to the above statement?
My comment, “i wouldnt do this if it weren’t compulsory” (no comma is required) is also very correctly used.
I would want to do this…if it hadn’t been compulsory. How would I write it? This
answer is grammatically incorrect, as it mixes the present and past unreal conditional.
The past unreal uses past perfect tense in the dependent clause, and would + Have + Past Participle in the independent clause. How must I e get out of a mandatory education?
The present unreal uses the past tense in the dependent clause and would + present tense in the independent clause. * * * * Why would you do something important but be non compulsory?
Are general conditional sentences ok?

“I wouldn’t do this if it wasn’t compulsory” sound good to me as a native speaker. If I just had my chance I wouldn’t do this thing- I won’t do it,
I shouldn’t have to.”
It has been tackled before, in the Behave as if it was or it were thread, but I’ve noticed an inconsistency in my own usages.
“I couldn’t do this if it wasn’t compulsory” uses the irrealis construction.
“If we changed this before it went to compulsory” uses as indicative.
I’m not in favor of either alternative, and both CGEL and ACGEL say both are widely used. I am more interested in both. *I are happy with both.
