Combining verbs with multiple meanings is a waste of language.

Why can’t I use a verb with multiple meanings in the same sentence?

What is a little familiar in the classic Flanders Swann song Madeira M’Dear :

He hastened to put out his cat, his wine, his cigar and the lamps. ;).

What is a structure?

Why?
