Yes, there are places where “”all right” is acceptable. But what also happens within the context where this is okay? Are all your answers wrong? No, they all are right i.e. I have to keep quiet if I want to avoid making an exception to what you put. What should I do? , All of them are right.

I find that alright seems to be following the example of all ready vs. all correct. Already and alltogether – vs alone? In both cases, as I did above, the phrase “of them are” is written to each of the former terms and makes it completely clear what is meant, whereas each of the latter terms have entirely different meanings.

Alright has come to mean acceptable, okay and safe, as in “the kids are alright” – so much for comfort if the kids have had some kind of accident or the like! “The kids are all right” in that same context would have an extremely confusing connotation: the kids would not all be correct after an accident.

I would like to point out that the way a word or phrase achieves acceptance and legitimacy is by usage, and “alright” certainly has this on it’s side!

What are the best things to do?
