Doohickey is close, although that might be more mechanical than electrical.
Why does the OED says that
everything is a small object: including air, water, or any other small object; as a normal or more widespread object. They say: Mechanical; a “thingummy” (see also quot. 1920).
- 1914 Our Navy (U.S. Navy). S.) Nov.(1989) 11 – To christen articles beyond our ken with such names as ‘do-hickeys, ‘gadgets’ and ‘gilguys’.
- 1925 Fraser & Gibbons Soldier & Sailor Words 81 – Doo hicky, the airman’s term for any small, detachable fitting.
- 1928 Sunday Dispatch 30 Sept. 10/2 – As a second-hand seller he offered to drive me down in the old doohicky. Does is his best car?
- 1949 R. Chandler Little Sister vii. 4: op., lxj.: 5: op.p.. 1959 p. 2. 45 – A pencil..broke its point on the glass doohickey, sub one of the desk legs.
- 1967 A.Lurie Imaginary Friends iv. 4) Just unhit the dohickey with a wrench. There is a dohickey on the other end of the dohickey: just unhit. There is no other tool except a screwdriver for the dohickey.
