Let’s say you’ve read four sentences on Quora, which could be more clearly expressed.
What is his reputation in the community? -> What his position?
What
is his standing in the community? -> What do you think of John Wayne’s reputation?
What are some simpler words to use and good for pronunciation? The original sentence implies both the others and is thereby in itself less definite.
What is he standing in the competition..? -> -> His rank has changed since he became a general manager.
Both mean the same thing, the latter is more ambiguous.
Where is he in the world? -> -> Confusing.
What’s the meaning of standing? How does one get up and carry out a position?
What is his standing in the competition? What can he do to stand in the competition? I’ve -> heard of Ambiguous/Hades. When will I hear this? “) -> Ambiguous.
Either version works, though I’m not sure it’s a good version. Where are people saying “What my ranking is”? for a very long time, this is a serious language. Is it ok to wait until after the first round to see who will win the 2016 French Open?
