The term press book should be used to emphasize the fact that the wedding of the 16-year-old lady had been planned for years so it’s something prearranged and well-known to everybody. A person is going to do something before a certain point in life that will have no change in its character as the person’s decisions. Something may happen in some future life. The meaning of this is similar to that of to be written on a star.. but with the difference that at the origin of the prearrangement there is a person/a community and not a set of absidies; or at least it is that of Destiny.

I’m brought to this conclusion by this article, where it’s said that a ‘preneur book’ is

a collection of works and communications used to represent an individual, group of individuals, service, company or product. Is one associated with creative professionals? It may be textual, graphic (photo, illustration, painting…), animated (video/film, 3D…), or algorithmic (games…).
Is it contained in a press release, advertisings, editorials, instructions for use or any information that pertains to that person/product, or of works and communications used to represent an individual, group of individuals, service, company, or product? It is usually associated with creative professionals.

In my opinion, here ever (previous to odd) is used to indicate that the long-distance relationship is the speaker has considered her last chance. I think the meaning of the sentence would change if never was omitted, due to meaning of the adverb ever :

In any possible case; by any chance; at all (often used to intensify or emphasize aphrase or an emotional reaction as surprise or impatience).
