As opposed to means comparing two things that are, at least, somewhat related. If we were to ask a question on Facebook, would you say, “Karen likes blueberry pie, as opposed to Kenny who likes cherry pie.” “As opposed to,” instead of “instead of,” or “comparing to something”, because the first phrase, “Instead of,” is used when there are (usually) two things being compared, but the speaker is choosing one of those two things to pick. “I read the blue book instead of going to the park. ” How do you put “instead of” two things being like that? Normally, they’re related, but they’re in different ways with each other? What’s the examples of a sentence like “Comparing to something”?
