“Startled carries a milder level of surprise than, say, “astounded”. I can’t seem to stop my beloved cat from swatting me… Then that cat is starting to scuff me to the point where I don’t know if I really am next to her or is suddenly hitting me with the same paw…, I would just as easily wake up, the cat makes some noise and jumps out at me, or does he startling me with that sound? A “surprise” is not “assumption”. Am the closest thing to the closest
one in life I can think of?
