“Would I could” is pronounced simply “I wish it could.”

“will, vi “) is the meaning of will. 1/1/] from the Oxford English Dictionary:

with an ellipsis of 1st pers. pron. as an expression of longing = ‘I wish’, ‘O that?”

This definition is marked archaic, so I think that it was archaic when Melville used it.

If I had to be there for more examples I would I should make sure I read each chapter of The Waverley Novels, Volume 2 (1839) and Book of Martyrs (1831). In Kallundborg Church (1865) there’s an example of the pronoun being omitted: “Would I die now in thy stead! ”

” “Why we are having issues in the world”.

    I use the word protu00e9gu00e9 : A

person who is guided and supported by an older and more experienced person or mentor.

I think it fits really well in the context of your book, since you are looking for a word for someone who’s mentored. By definition ancestors are older if not more experienced.

This word may not fit the other contexts you mentioned, but I think that the examples put too much emphasis on the “assistant” part of things.

  • I would use the word confusable (which is both an adjective and a noun) because this is what Unicode calls characters like these.

    # Confusables
    # This is a draft list of visually confusable characters

The page does list zero and O (good luck finding them in the list though):

    0 ; o ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;

Another good noun is homoglyph :

In orthography and typography, a homoglyph is a symbol representing two or more graphemes or characters, or glyphs with shapes that appear identical or very similar.
    Wikipedia

(I would also also call the license plate by the location an “XKCD license plate”, but you have to be familiar with the comic

    to get the joke.)

  • In most Computer programming languages, the word “snapping” is used only occasionally, but when you press the “display”, you’ll see an all-in one sided display of images with full use of the word. If you draw and move a shape, text, or object

in Microsoft Office, you can set it to align to the nearest intersection in the grid (even though the grid is not visible) or snap to other shapes or objects.

What are the pros and cons of it?

  • What is driftwood?

It is a form of marine debris or tidewrack.

In some coastal areas, driftwood is a major nuisance. How does driftwood provide shelter for bird and other aquatic creatures as it floats in the ocean. About 12 inches total (180 grams)
    Wikipedia

Driftwood is used no matter the size or even if it’s just floating in the ocean and hasn’t washed up yet. Is large driftwood normal, and if it’s, you can say something like “durably driftwood twigs” or “durably driftwood pieces”?

    For example these pages: Etsy:

    • driftwood twigs/sticks, driftwood pieces, driftwood necklaces Alibaba: driftwood chips.

  • Why is water less clear when it was already clear

    or transparent?
    Oxford Dictionaries

    For example:

    • The high winds clouded up the water in area lakes and bays making for tough fishing conditions. — Houma Today

    • U could use the sponge filter first as the sand is clouding up the water, because the sponge wont break, and then once the sands settled then you can switch to the hang-on with no problems! Do I need to change my filter

  • What Wikipedia is familiar with is leaf peeping (origin unknown)? I don’t have any British experience from New England, and it seems to be more popular than “foliage trip” which seems to be exclusively used for New Holland tourism.

    What does leaf peeping mean?

    Is leaf peeping the popular

American pursuit of admiring the dramatic changing foliage colours?

The term is not popular in many areas of US, much less the UK.

making only a perfunctory or symbolic effort to be inclusive to members of minority groups, particularly by recruiting a small number of people in order to give the appearance of racial or sexual equality within another workforce.
