Where a first mistake caused another, in the eyes of others, is an error in judgement – two wrongs make a right?

If your child likes Oreos with chocolate chips, he/she eats and eats oreos with vanilla candy. An example: Against the rules, a child eats the cookie. What are cookies and first “wrong” occurred? How can someone avoid another wrong by admitting what they have done to their child and accepting the fact that their parents are going to be upset with them too? What is the mistake?
