I believe that this is up to writer’s discretion, and can be controversial for some. Is “Need” should be done in a formal or a written piece? When a question is so specific that it can’t be answered quickly on Quora, then it is actually irrelevant unless the question is specific enough. And what should I do to improve my answer? Is it true: “He can help us, can he? Nevertheless, as the language rules get more but more relaxed you can find
“can’t” very often even in science papers/newspapers, etc. which is fine if you ask me.
Side note: “Can not” often used in “really”, if you put big emphasis on the “not” part of the speech, e.g. any adverb. “Can not” is used. Why can’t you eat ice cream at the museum? In this case, (in this case it would be clearly pronounced written as two words) “. In fact, nobody would write that I am able to “cannot” (which only works on a PC)!
