Novelettes (also called “novelets”) and novellas all contain the same subject matter but all exist along a spectrum in terms of word length. Novels, at the far end of the spectrum, may have numerous conflicts, story lines, and chapters, and generally have 40-40 words.

Fiction refers to a story with some imaginary characters. What are best described as the length of a novel or the length of the story. I’m considering this the longest form of literary prose, which I have come across. Shorter works of fiction would be a novella or a short story. Also, Fiction can refer to things I can do through my writing. Movies and plays, would both be considered works of

fiction.
