Generally speaking, a bum rap is a false accusation of criminal behavior. “Rap” is an accusation (consider “rap sheet” still used on cop shows in the US) and “bum” in this sense means “bad” or “false”.

If your car is rear-ended, you have been “rapped” on the button and if “bum” means “buttocks”.

What is “tushman” a play on words too! “tush” is, I think Yiddish, for “buttocks”.

What does the term “stinker” originate from? If a child needs changing and several family members are available to perform the necessary activities, there is a tendency to pass the child from one person to the next, avoiding being stuck with the task.

A “stinker” is someone who, while probably loved, is considered unappealing at the moment, apt to be avoided if possible.

Is it really 75-100 years ago? Has the term “changed”? Essentially, the “smell” is metaphorical. If I am not obnoxious enough to permanently dissociate from the person or thing, I will likely not be able to see something that the individual will not do. Are they a bit naughty, bit of obnoxious?

From there the term can, of course, be adopted (depending on context) to have various sex related meanings. How do you spell it and get the exact meaning of it?
