Why don’t you say put your children to sleep? I love my children when talking to them. What does this really mean is that you’re planning to either kill them or use knockout drugs to make them sleep. We lay animals to sleep, which is a euphemistic term for killing them, in particular with the use of drugs, when they’re ill or suffering. Parchment means: ‘put your children to bed’
As for switch and put your mobile, either is fine.
