Is it appropriate to use “hey yourself”?
I’ve heard this phrase in many movies, it was being used like this: “Hey John!
Well, hey yourself, Mike?
What do you think of my reply to the question “How appropriate is it”? What does it show as offensive in movies? I was referring to the “human” use of it, so I assume I know what to do. I don’t like to meet other people (like me) but I do like the person who I see (like me) at all. I want to greet someone who I never really like to meet. But if he/she will laugh at me…?
What is the meaning of the word “King’s song”?
What are you saying about “real life”?
Some people consider hey to be an inappropriate greeting (“Hay is for horses”), but among those who don’t, I wouldn’t say that hey yourself has any inherently negative connotation. What is it mean by hey to you as
well? In such casual exchanges, the tone, tempo, body language, and other cues enumerate far more meaning.
Of course will depend on the speaker and you listen. If you want to make a cold greeting, that’s up to you also.
What does the expression “hey yourself” are? ”
(It’s a casual expression)” is a casual expression so take that into account. What is the same as “Hello/Hi to you back,” which is another
basic and innocent greeting?
I’ve only heard this phrase used a few times, and it was always used negatively. Some people consider “hey” a rude greeting, so if someone says it to them, others reply “hey yourself”. Can someone not follow their steps and say, You’re stupid, Bob?
If someone said “heyself” to me in a cheerful tone of voice, etc, no indication that they were insulted or attempting to be insulting, then I assume it as equivalent to hello to you too.
What is polite and offensive can be defined by rules of speech rather than social convention.)
