What does the phrase “Are you related to the candidate?” mean?

I’m filling an employment reference form and I’m not sure what this means. Why? Are you married while committing relationship? What do you want to say on a Personal Interview? And do you want to indicate your relationship status?

Thank

you!

I’d be surprised if “relative” here doesn’t mean

belonging to the same family.

It’s normal that prospective employers won’t want family members to give a reference. They expect them to be biased.

How reliable is a strong professional relationship with the person you are talking with as a reference? In this case, the decision of term relationship is unfortunate and could possible have been replaced by “affiliation”, “connection” or even just “professional relationship” if

a person is married to a foreigner and you are genuinely willing to support him/her with your case”.

Is it asking if you’re related by blood or marriage (and may be tempted to turn a blind eye to the candidate’s faults). Yes, it asking whether you are married or biologically related (and may be tempted to not examine them as they’re related).

What is probity and nepotism in government? The word nepo is related to the Latin nepos. – Favoring your family?

Since this is an employment reference form, the only meaningful way to interpret this is as’related by family.’ Eg: Cousin, brother, father, aunt, etc.

If I ask someone who is running for the position of governor online and if he’s my house neighbour, should I answer this?

I know my brother doesn’t know him but I’ve

seen what she can do and I

hope this is

clear.
