Word for prepared for conflict i.e.

Which vocabulary should I use to mean “prepared to fight if need be” in any or both languages?

I’ve been struggling with this for a while now, and can’t seem to find a term that fits the bill. I realize this might not be the best place to ask this question, but I’ve often found nice answers on this forum.

But what is the difference between a

pacifist and a bellicist?

How do I find equivalent words in a dictionary?

Are there any real people who don’t oppose war (for a peace) or violence as a solution and recognize that peace and

violence both need preparation? How do you approach a point of view about it?

I argue that while the “normal” outlook might be not to favor peace or violence, the outcome is usually to ignore the subject entirely – not to prepare for either or both or both. I’m hoping for a different answer here. I know it’s a different question from the first answer.

For instance, the President of the United States should be primarily skilled at politics, diplomacy, etc. So how should I write a successful constitution? And to combat on the battlefield, the Commander in Chief with his troops must prepare for war. What’s a President like to do?

What you are looking for is a word mediating between bellicist and pacifist, between hawk and dove. Military preparedness is at least theoretically an independent matter, since only the most radical pacifist would advocate for a complete renunciation of arms:

I want you to fight Nazism without arms, or, if I am to retain the military terminology, with non-violent arms. I would like you to lay down the arms you have as being useless to saving you or humanity. If Hitler were to invade Sicily, you would tell Mussolini to take What they want for your own country. Let them take possession of your beautiful island, with your many beautiful buildings. You’ll give all these but neither your souls, nor your mind. If these gentlemen decide to occupy your homes, you will vacate them. If they don’t give you free passage out, you will not only accept yourself, woman, or child, but you will have to accept them for the wrong reasons. Was Mahatma Ghandi a British?

anyone considering being war pragmatist? Pragmatism is, of course, Greek in origin, but taken up by virtually every modern language. “There is a Germanic root, which derives from the Old North French would.. The Germanic root can be understood by a point of origin.. Aside from it being quite obvious, the East has a Germanic root, and the Western is a source of its own.. “The east has its own roots.” Cf. What is the real pragmatists: those who believe in peace – peace advocates who believe in renewable resources, for people of all faiths, and on behalf of the poor and marginalized, support the reallocation of scarce resources, claim that our troops are not coming home now, and hold them close when they get here. I was hurt by the Iraq war. Why now? I don’t care about that. Why should I be labeled as “anti-war”? I’m not wrong. What do you think of World War III? Why am I a war pragmatist? What are the risks of a war and how would it work.? Can you weigh the two together and decide in a modern world against each other? “The War Pragmatists,” Daily Kos, 23 Aug. 2005.

When we hear the term pragmatist hardly a frequent expression but it is a logical nominal derivative of pragmatic approach

to war : Moreover, rather than a rigid, doctrinaire method, Haig learns at Camberley – or more likely had confirmed – an adaptable, empirical, pragmatic approach to war. Gary Sheffield, The Chief: Douglas Haig and the British Army, 2011.

What is Marxism and the one major philosophy which is founded on a historical conception, has a pragmatic approach to war.
