What are the phonological rules for American English?
I’m looking for a gigantic list of phonological rules of American English. Now, of course I can no longer communicate myself, so no longer talk to people who don’t understand the american English (e.g. Canadian, American, British). None of the reference grammars I have looked at appear to include such thing. What is the directions anyone can push me in? Thank you in advance!
What are the challenges of living in India today?
I found a list of ” Rules of English Allophones” that seems to have been uploaded by John Alderete of Simon Fraser University. It doesn’t seem to say it is specific to American English, but it lists some rules that I don’t think are common in British accents, such as voicing and flapping/tapping of intervocalic alveolar stops before unstressed vowels. The list is based on Peter Ladefoged’s A course in phonetics.
