The noun that describes the object that is targeting. The nouns can be defined as “as in targets”.
What is another word that I can’t seem to find? When I use a blank in the place of the word it does not really have any other grammar to demonstrate
what I actually mean as an
example, take predators and prey for example: The predator strikes upon the target; The prey is predated by the predator.
Comparing this to the word I’m looking for:
The targets the target; The target is targeted by I'm
looking for a general word for something that does the targeting. Which is the word that doesn’t exist for a reason?
Edit
Answered in response to suggestions of ‘targeted’: it’s for a paper, so I wouldn’t use a word that isn’t in the dictionary. I will be using another word in the “Edited Words” field. “There was a strong correlation between the length of a gene and the number of miRNAs
that targeted it. It is important to know the exact definition and context of my word. “There
was a strong correlation between the length of the gene and the number of targeters it has. We don’t know. We know that more could exist… I have a genetic algorithm, I have a gene “…The length of the gene was a very small factor. But the effect of the targeters on other genes is that the target genes are around this gene that don’t contain the gene”. This works, but as it doesn’t technically exist, and also sounds horrible, it won’t suffice.
An ‘aimer’ takes aim at the target and thus targets it.

need some arbitrary examples: In sniping/arching/hunting:
(The sniper/the
- archer/the huntsman) targets the target.
- The target is targeted by the sniper..
In video game: (The
- targeting reticle/player/controller) targets the target, and “Isnt that cool or addictive?
- Loose target is targeted by the targeting reticle.
If you want a generic word, the most obvious choice is: The
- targeter targets the target.
- The target is targeted by the targeter. This will add value to the target when the targeter is not notified.
Does not mean your dictionary makes this one wrong. “Targeter” is used extensively in computer coding and marketing for the exact usage that you are utilizing.
