Can I still call voicemail a voicemail?

I just wrote an email where I was sharing someone’s voicemail greeting, but instead of referring to it as a voicemail greeting, I simply called it voicemail.

I called his number and was left with a voice mail telling me to call his cell phone. I received no phone number and I decided to call his number.

How many times have you used voicemail? How do you use the word “voice mail greeting” instead of “call us”? I noticed both of them, so I wrote them all in my email. The former came to mind automatically. When answering a question in my computer says “you can leave a message in your answering machine.” do you get the “no voicemail” message?

What can I call a voice message greeting? What do you prefer to call it Voicemail Greeting, Voicemail, answering message? Are all three aspects of my personality unacceptable?

What is your opinion on “Dark Horse”?
