Data of similar characteristics vs. corresponding entity (in contrast to datasets)? Is there any similar record of data with similar characteristics than the first one?

Do I need to know which preposition or consonance to make a sentence?

Diversification implies a trade-off between selecting data of relevance to user intent and diversifying data with similar characteristics.

A quick search on Google for “data with similar characteristics” returns 416,000 results while “data of similar characteristics” returns 265,000 results. Is “of” in this case because it can emphasize the “similar qualities” part?

And ‘of’ in this context is ambiguous. How can I assess whether a subject of study has similar characteristics and you’re talking about the data you’ve gathered on this subject?

The usage of “with” makes it clear that the latter sense is intended.

I would question the use of ‘diversifying’ and ‘diversification’ here, as the term implies expansion, while the use here seems to have more to do with limit.
