What is the difference between the original English translation and the modern English version?
What a sentence from a letter from Paul Morphy to Fiske confuses me?
What the hell are the many reasons for oblivion and euphoria as well as for dereliction when we can’t be a sport!
I understand the rest of the letter, but that bolded part completely melted my brain, particularly the bit between’such as’ and ‘have been’. I feel like there’s a missing noun in
a sentence.
The main difference between using such and such as a pronoun is in the first example.
In modern text, such as has been, would appear “people who have been”, or “some from those who have been”
Do this make it clearer?
