A word for maybe-answer to a request?

Sometimes we ask others to do something for us and they reject our request, but not promise like that; they give us an maybe-answer such as “I don’t promise, but will try to do my best” or “If I had some spare time”. Does there exist any word for answer to the following requests?

Where and how do I start my writing career?
